Temporal Reasoning with Constraints on Fluents and Events

چکیده
We propose a propositional language for temporal reasoning that is computationally effective yet expressive enough to describe information about uents, events and temporal constraints. Although the complete inference algorithm is exponential, we characterize a tractable core with limited expressibility and inferential power. Our results render a variety of constraint propagation techniques applicable for reasoning with constraints on uents.

Execution Monitoring with Quantitative Temporal Bayesian Networks
The goal of execution monitoring is to determine whether a system or person is following a plan appropriately. Monitoring information may be uncertain, and the plan being monitored may have complex temporal constraints. We develop a new framework for reasoning under uncertainty with quantitative temporal constraints – Quantitative Temporal Bayesian Networks – and we discuss its application to p...

متن کاملWhen Did that Happen? - Linking Events and Relations to Timestamps
We present work on linking events and fluents (i.e., relations that hold for certain periods of time) to temporal information in text, which is an important enabler for many applications such as timelines and reasoning. Previous research has mainly focused on temporal links for events, and we extend that work to include fluents as well, presenting a common methodology for linking both events an...
متن کاملTemporal Constraint Networks in Action
This paper presents an integration of the well known Temporal Constraint Networks representation into a causal approach for reasoning about actions calledAL2 [9]. As a result, temporal constraints are allowed in the conditions of the causal rules that describe the domain behavior. We show the adequacy of the AL2 understanding of causation (based on the concept of pertinence) for naturally intro...
متن کاملFinite-State Temporal Projection
Finite-state methods are applied to determine the consequences of events, represented as strings of sets of fluents. Developed to flesh out events used in natural language semantics, the approach supports reasoning about action in AI, including the frame problem and inertia. Representational and inferential aspects of the approach are explored, centering on conciseness of language, context upda...
